The proposed design concept takes inspiration from the rich architectural heritage of Samarra, specifically the spiral minaret and unique Hiri architectural style of one of the gates of the grand Jamea Mosque. A modification of the gate opening profile is also incorporated in the design to mimic the domes of the Al-Askeri Shrine, a holy burial site for Imams Ali Al-Hadi and Hasan Al-Askari. This initial design concept is subject to further development and requires comprehensive architectural details to ensure all services surrounding the site are accounted for. The design showcases the city’s historical landmarks and heritage while incorporating its religious symbols in an architectural monument representative of the capital of the Abbasid state. This region has ruled for more than half a century, and the design will honor the significant history of the area.
